Poecilia reticulata
Guppies get their name from an English naturalist named R. J. Lechmere Guppy, who sent specimens to the Natural History Museum in London in the 1800s. While their scientific name changed several times between 1861 and 1963, before finally setting on Poecilia reticulata, the common name of “guppy” stuck around. Ours look nothing like the wild forms, as they have been selectively bred for decades. The colors are bright, vibrant, and amazing! Guppies are a species much beloved by beginners and experienced hobbyists alike.
Our Moscow Black Guppies are startlingly dark, with minimal lightness around their face and bellies.
