Description:
Tropical fish and aquatic life.
I have been involved in tropical fish and related items my whole life. My dad had a fish shop way back in the 50's and I maintained several tanks all my entire youth. I am a graduate of the University of Maryland with a BS in Arts and Sciences with a specialty in marine zoology. In the 80's I was general manager of a chain of 4 Retail fish stores, and a wholesale distributor in the Washington DC area. In the late 80s I was a sales person for one of the largest fish importers/wholesalers in California. Then in the 90's I managed a Florida wholesale tropical fish distributor specializing in providing fish for major pet chain stores. Later I founded, owned and operated a Tropical Fish distribution company in Florida. Working directly with numerous Florida fish farms , consolidating their products, and shipping to fish stores all over the country. I did this for 9 years until I sold the company. Afterward I became a sales person for the largest fish farm/wholesaler in Florida and held that position for 6 years.
Now, I'm up in years, and raise fish in my own fish room at my home in Florida just for the fun of it and ship them to directly to fish hobbyists around the country.
Policy:
GUARANTY
At Tropics of Tampa, we are proud of the livestock we ship. Every fish, plant, shrimp, or snail was raised right here in my fish room. I have been packing and shipping fish for many years. Although rare and unlikely, anything can happen when shipping live animals.
In the unlikely event that any of our animals arrive dead on arrival please email to us photos of the fish in the unopened bag within 2 hours of the first delivery attempt and I will replace or refund the item, excluding shipping cost.
In the event of shipping delays or damage caused by the shipper, you would need to claim with the carrier which is usually the USPS.
We use United States Postal Service Priority shipping. We have had very good results with this service. Depending on your location, most shipments arrive within 2 days. The fish are packed to survive for much longer so there is rarely an issue.
SHIPPING
We ship on Tuesday mornings.
Why Tuesday? We usually isolate any fish to be shipped on Monday. We do not feed the fish on Monday that are to be shipped on Tuesday except for fry. By shipping on Tuesday, most fish will arrive on Thursday, but if not 99% would arrive by Friday, avoiding fish sitting in a shipping box over the weekend.
SHIPPING COSTS
We charge a flat rate of $19.00 for shipping via Priority 2-3 day shipping with the United States Postal Service. The shipping price INCLUDES not only the livestock, but also INCLUDES the bag, heat or cold pack as needed, the shipping materials, etc.
IMPORTANT: The $19.00 Shipping charge is the same regardless of how many items you add to your order. It is not $19 for each bag of fish.
