Paradise fish are an interesting member of the gourami family. They have a very different body shape to most gourami, and bear more than a passing resemblance to betta fish. They are easy to care for, and are very interactive with their keepers.
They are native to East Asia and have been a staple of the aquarium trade since the mid 1800s. They are hardy and can withstand temperatures from 50-80 degrees Fahrenheit, and pH from 5.8-8.0, though in the wild they are found in densely planted marshes.
They do display sexual dimorphism, where the males are more brightly colored and with longer fins than the females. We do not guarantee accurate sexing, but if you email us we can do our best!
Like other anabantoids, they are territorial and can be aggressive towards similarly shaped fish. Potential tank mates should be able to match their temperament to maintain a pecking order.
