Barbus titteya

Barbus titteya has to be among the most popular barbs that we sell. Sure, they are common but the males are also gloriously red with a velvety look about them. The males aren’t overly aggressive and they aren’t given to shredding tank mates. The fish you get are very likely tank raised as it is illegal to fish for wild caught animals due to habitat loss. The streams run through forests that are now gone. Yes, there is a patchwork of forested places left and yes, people are still collecting wild caught animals for export, but we don’t buy our fish directly from Sri Lanka, so you are getting fish that are keeping the native population in place.
