The Kamaka rainbowfish is a species of rainbowfish endemic to southwest New Guinea, specifically lake Kamakawaiar of which it earns its name. Heiko Bleher collected this species in June 1995 together with Paola Pierucci and Patrick de Rham.
The males rainbows are a stunning blue with a dark lateral line and a brilliant flash of white from their mouths, down to their dorsal fin. The females are paler in color with a similar, but faded, lateral line.
These beauties grow to around five and a half inches in length, with males being slightly larger than their female counterparts.
They prefer a planted tank with plenty of room to swim, as they are very active in the water column. They readily take any foods offered.
