Swimmy McGee's is run by a dedicated group of people working with fish at the wholesale level.
We noticed that our fish do really well for our customers, and thought "we use ethics, math, and kindness -- we can TOTALLY do this for regular folks and not just fish stores." We receive more fish in a week than most stores (brick and mortar or online) will see in a year. We order what lives and thrives, we reduce bag lots for the most success and we know what works best after decades of working with folks as small as local breeders to the highest quality exporters in the world.
As for our shop, we have a fella with over 40 years of experience keeping an eye on everything. He oversees the import, acclimation, feeding, medication choices, etc... for every tank of fish. He has personally met all the owners of the companies he deals with in Asia and South American exporters have been working with him for decades.
The person you will be interacting with is working as one of the caregivers in our warehouse, and has an intimate knowledge of every tank and every species of fish we work with. She has eight years of experience with fish care on the levels of home hobbyist, retail senior aquarist, and wholesale caregiver. You will always receive first hand and personalized information when you ask about our fish, with tried and true methods of keeping fish alive and well throughout their journey from our tanks to yours.
We have been tinkering with shipping small lots of fish with our existing customers and everyone has been having good luck. Six months of smaller boxes, almost no losses (read: one snowstorm got us) -- it's time to give our online retail sales model a go! Policy:
All orders will be packed and shipped out every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday is our main shipping day.
You will receive your fish the next day if shipped UPS overnight, assuming no delays caused by weather.
We will not be able to pack any orders placed less than 24 hours before we pack your fish. Add-ons are still possible, but not guaranteed.
Make sure your address is CORRECT before completing your purchase.
The fish travel in plastic bags with clean water and oxygen. They are then placed in Styrofoam insulated containers which are protected by a cardboard box. We also use heat or ice packs depending on the season. The health of the fish will start to drastically deteriorate after 40 hours, so we ask that you receive and start acclimating your fish as soon as possible.
WE GUARANTEE LIVE ARRIVAL ON ALL ON-TIME SHIPMENTS.
Please inspect the box once you have received it to make sure there isn't visible damage to the box.
Open the box and inspect the fish. Please mark any DOAs you find and take pictures of the UNOPENED bag.
Once properly inspected, let the bag float in the new tank for 5-10 minutes to bring the fish to the temperature in the tank -- it may take longer. DO NOT OPEN the bags. DO NOT PUT WATER into the bags from your tank.
You should then pour the fish into a net. You can use a bucket or similar disposal method. Then place the fish into the tank. DO NOT PUT SHIPPING WATER into your tank.
Do not feed them until the fish look happy and active again. If you unload your fish after your normal feeding time, wait until the next day to feed the new fish.
Shipping charges are not covered by our Live Arrival Guarantee and are non-refundable, if there is a problem with the carrier, claims must be submitted to the carrier.

If you receive dead fish, as there are many random factors that influence the shipment during transit, please send clear pictures of the unopened bag that contains the dead fish. Photos must be received within ONE hour of package delivery. We can offer credit towards your next purchase or a refund in the case of DOA. We cannot refund on any fish that die after you have opened the bag and/or placed the fish into the new tank. Failure to send the required pictures within one hour of delivery voids all guarantees and refunds. Please be patient, and we will respond in kind and handle any concerns quickly and in a professional manner. Please send all photos of DOA to Swimmymcgees@gmail.com.
