Java Fern is an extremely tough and resilient aquatic plant, food for beginner or low-tech tanks. It will grow in most water conditions, soft, hard, acid, or alkaline and does not require high light. It is a great plant for blackwater tanks.
The rhizome should not be buried, but instead attached to rock or wood with a bit of thread. In time it will attach itself to the structure and continue to grow. It has a unique form of propagation, where small new Java fern plants form at the tips or on any damaged portions of the leaves.
*Note on pests*: I remove bladder snails and duckweed any time I see them in my fish room. They should not be present on any plants I ship (or own). But be it weeks or months between sightings, like a bad case of herpes they seem to show up unexpectedly. I recommend you rinse and inspect any plants (including these) before placing in your tank as an extra preventative measure. There may be Ramshorn snails, as they are present in most tanks.
